Social Emotional Learning at Emerson
Students attend SEL (Social Emotional Learning) sessions bi-weekly in our wellness center.
What is it?
In elementary school, SEL, or social and emotional learning, is the process of teaching children skills to understand and manage their emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, build and maintain healthy relationships, and make responsible decisions. This is a critical part of their education that helps them succeed in school and in life by fostering skills like self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
How do we teach SEL?
Students in grades K-2 are taught using ‘the Little Spot’, Second Step and School Beat.
Students in grades 3-6 are taught using Second Step and School Beat.
